Fulton-Montgomery Community College offers elementary and intermediate language courses in French and Spanish, as well as an elementary level language course in German as part of its regular daytime course offerings. In addition, FMCC offers and has offered evening and special topics courses in Chinese, Italian, Russian and Welsh.
The structure used in most of the languages courses offered at FM is based on the Communicative Approach, an approach to language learning which insists that students speak the language, not just learn about the language. The classroom environment is meant as a place to engage the language and practice it. Language learning is very much a skill, and the Communicative classroom strives to enhance all five skill areas: speaking, reading, writing, listening and culture. Of course, not all the language instructors use exactly the same method, and it is good idea to check with the course instructor in advance to see how they conduct their courses.
